Participants travelling to World Youth Day events
Participants and others travelling to WYD08 events will use the public transport system throughout the six days. Three separate timetables have been designed to cater for demand - one for all weekday events, one for the Pilgrimage Walk and one for the Mass.
Most events do not start until after morning peak hour and finish after the evening peak hour. Participants are asked to travel outside peak hours.
- Expect possible delays and plan to travel early. Listen carefully to service announcements at stations or onboard the train.
- On weekdays participants are requested not to travel on services arriving in the City between 7.00am and 10.00am (unless attending Catechesis in the City) and services departing the City between 4.00pm and 7.00pm. This will assist in ensuring that regular commuters get to and from work.
- Special train and bus services will operate for participants travelling between 10.00am and 3.00pm and again after 7.30pm from Tuesday 15 July to Friday 18 July.
- Special train and bus services will operate for participants from 4.00am on Saturday 19 July and Sunday 20 July and at the conclusion of the Final Mass.
- Intercity services include Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, Newcastle & Central Coast and South Coast services. Participants travelling from intercity railway stations to the City, please travel after 9.00am.
- Registered participants must be in possession of a Pilgrim Passport or valid ticket when travelling on trains.
- Pilgrim Passports can only be used on CityRail suburban services, a ticket must be purchased if travelling beyond the CityRail suburban area. See a map of the travel boundaries for transport using a Pilgrim Passport.
- Participants are requested to respect other travellers on the transport network who may not be attending WYD08 events.
