Ticket conditions
Please ensure you have a valid ticket (and concession card if required) before travelling. If both the ticket office and ticket vending machines are closed, you can buy a ticket at your destination. Fines apply to customers who cannot produce a valid ticket or concession pass.
Ticket care
Please look after your ticket. If the magnetic strip is erased or damaged the ticket becomes void. Only faulty tickets, not damaged ones, will be replaced. Please do not:
- Wash or immerse your ticket in water.
- Leave your ticket in the sun or next to a heat source such as a radiator.
- Fold, bend or twist your ticket.
- Remove or tamper with the magnetic strip or any trip detail on your ticket.
- Cut or tear your ticket.
- Allow your ticket to become coated with grime or other foreign substances.
- Expose your ticket to strong magnets.
Breaking your journey
Breaking your journey is not allowed on single, return and off-peak return tickets.
- If you get off a train, but do not exit the station, you have not broken your journey
- If you get off a train and exit a station you have broken your journey
- Once you exit a station, your trip has been completed.
Approved routes of travel
There may be more than one route through the CityRail network between your origin and destination stations. In general, you should choose the shortest route in kilometres, however a MyTrain ticket may give you additional options. For a full list of approved routes of travel, consult the Passenger Fares Handbook below, or call 131 500.
